Hey folks, have you heard the latest news? The Department for Education has given the green light for a brand new school in Walsall! And get this, the government is going to fund it directly. How cool is that?
The Walsall Council is currently on the hunt for the perfect location for the school. One of the potential sites they’re considering is the old Reedswood golf course at Reedswood Park. Can you imagine going to school on a former golf course? That would be pretty awesome!
This nine-hole course was actually built after the Birchills Power Station was demolished back in 1987. But sadly, it closed down in 2007. Now, it’s going to be transformed into a fantastic school that will provide 1,100 new places for children in the borough. That’s a lot of new opportunities!
The council is wasting no time and has already started exploring the Reedswood golf course site. They’re testing the ground to make sure it’s suitable for the new school. How exciting!
Councillor Adrian Andrew, the deputy leader and portfolio holder for regeneration at Walsall Council, couldn’t contain his excitement. He said, ‘This is really good news for the borough. We’ve been working hard with local partners and the Department for Education to make this happen. It’s all part of our big plans to transform Walsall and create more opportunities for local families and young people.’
Councillor Mark Statham, the portfolio holder for education and skills, is also thrilled about the new school. He said, ‘Our goal is to give every child in Walsall the best possible start and a positive learning experience. This new school will provide more places and more choices for students and their parents. It’s going to be amazing!’
I don’t know about you, but I think this is fantastic news. It’s great to see the government investing in education and creating new opportunities for our community. I can’t wait to see the new school in action and watch the students thrive. Walsall is definitely on the rise!
