The City of Playford Tennis International has reached its quarterfinal stage, and the matchups are set for an exciting day of tennis. Day 5 saw some thrilling matches, with defending champion Rinky Hijikata and second seed James Duckworth emerging victorious.

In a thrilling encounter, Rinky Hijikata defeated Yasutaka Uchiyama in straight sets, 6-2 7-5. It was a hard-fought battle that lasted one hour and forty minutes. Meanwhile, James Duckworth overcame Philip Sekulic with a score of 7-5 6-1, showcasing his skills on the court.

Unfortunately, top seed Thanasi Kokkinakis had to retire from his match due to a viral illness. It was a disappointing turn of events for the South Australian player.

In the women’s category, top seed Kimberly Birrell faced a tough challenge against Talia Gibson. After a grueling two-hour and fifteen-minute battle, Birrell emerged victorious with a score of 3-6 6-3 6-1. On the other hand, Emerson Jones’ winning streak came to an end as Seone Mendez defeated her 6-2 6-4.

The action continues tomorrow with the singles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals. Rinky Hijikata and James Duckworth will take the spotlight on Centre Court, while Sharma and Birrell will showcase their skills on Court 9 and Court 8 respectively.
