Hey hockey fans! Get ready for an action-packed weekend as the Union Women’s Hockey team kicks off their ECAC Hockey home games. They will be hosting two tough opponents, Cornell and Colgate, at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.
The Union team is coming off a fantastic opening weekend, where they secured their first victory in their ECACH opener in six years. They followed it up with a draw at Dartmouth, making it their most successful conference opening weekend in the DI era.
Cornell, on the other hand, is off to a strong start this season. They have won their first five games and are determined to reclaim their spot at the top. Colgate has also had a solid start, defeating ranked opponents and proving their strength on the ice.
Last weekend, Union players Riley Walsh and Maddie Leaney both scored hat tricks, with their third goals serving as game-winners in overtime. It was an incredible achievement for the team, with Walsh’s hat trick being the first three-goal game for Union in almost 10 years.
The Union team has seen several players reach their first collegiate milestones this season. Emma Fulawka, Maddie Leaney, and Iliana Smith have all registered their first collegiate points, with Leaney also scoring her first goal and hat trick. Riley Walsh and Monja Wagner have also achieved their first career hat trick and win, respectively.
Kendal Davidson, who scored her first collegiate goal in the home-opening victory, was named the ECAC Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. It’s a well-deserved recognition for her outstanding performance.
The Cornell team is led by senior Izzy Daniel and junior Lily Delianedis, who have been instrumental in their success. They are determined to reach the National Quarterfinals and Semifinals, just like they did in previous seasons.
Colgate, the three-time defending ECAC Hockey champions, is looking to continue their winning streak. They have a strong lineup, including Danielle Serdachny and Kristýna Kaltounková, who were top scorers last season.
The Union team is ready to make their mark this season. With Coach Josh Sciba leading the way, they aim to build on their success from last year and make history in the program.
So, grab your jerseys and get ready to cheer on the Union Women’s Hockey team as they take on Cornell and Colgate this weekend. It’s going to be an exciting showdown on the ice!
