Hamilton College Field Hockey Ends Season with Shutout Win

Hey there! So, the Hamilton College field hockey team just wrapped up their season with a fantastic win against William Smith College. It was a beautiful Wednesday evening, and the Continentals were on fire! Reilly Loughman, a freshman player, was an absolute rockstar in goal, stopping all three shots she faced. Talk about impressive! With Loughman’s stellar performance, Hamilton shut out the William Smith Herons with a final score of 2-0.

Let’s talk about the season as a whole. The Continentals, who were ranked 25th, finished with a solid 8-7 record. They really showed their dominance against non-conference opponents, going a perfect 5-0 and outscoring those teams 13-3. That’s some serious skill!

Now, let’s dive into the game itself. In the first quarter, with just one second left on the clock, Hamilton was awarded a penalty corner. Sammy Higgins, a sophomore player, inserted the ball to Hannah Dillon, who made a slick pass to Maeve Eskandari. Eskandari took the ball to the right wing and unleashed a powerful shot. The Herons’ defender managed to stop it at the goal line, but Higgins was quick to react, batting the ball out of midair and into the back of the net. What a goal!

The Continentals didn’t stop there. In the second quarter, they struck again. Higgins, once again, played a key role, starting the play and passing to Dillon. Dillon then found Alana King on the right wing, who confidently swept a wrist shot past the goalkeeper. The score was now 2-0 in favor of Hamilton.

The third quarter saw some intense action, with Hamilton taking five shots in the last two minutes. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the back of the net. The fourth quarter was relatively uneventful, with both teams only managing one penalty corner and no shots.

Let’s talk stats for a moment. Hamilton really dominated the game, holding a 15-4 shot advantage over William Smith. They were awarded seven penalty corners compared to the Herons’ two. Sammy Higgins had an incredible game, scoring her second career goal and earning six of her seven points this season in the last five games. Alana King also had a standout performance, finishing the season with three goals and 10 points. Hannah Dillon led the team with five assists and 11 points, wrapping up her Hamilton career with 15 assists and 33 points.

And let’s not forget about Reilly Loughman, the star goalkeeper. She finished the season with a record of 3-3 and recorded her second shutout in just six starts. Talk about talent!

Overall, it was a fantastic season for the Hamilton College field hockey team. They showed their skill and determination in every game, and this win against William Smith was the perfect way to end the season. Congratulations to the Continentals on a job well done!
