Johnny Sexton, the legendary Irish rugby player, recently retired from the sport after his team’s defeat in the Rugby World Cup. But retirement hasn’t slowed him down, as he has already landed a new job outside of rugby. Sexton has been working as a commercial manager for Ardagh Group, a glass and metal packaging supplier, since April 2021. Although he had been working part-time for the company before the World Cup, he is now expected to take on a more involved role.
In addition to his job at Ardagh Group, Sexton also owns his own management company, JAS Management and Promotions Ltd. The company has seen impressive profits, with earnings of £2.431m in 2022, an increase of nearly £305,000 from the previous year.
But that’s not all. Sexton has also been tipped to join Ireland’s coaching set-up after his retirement. It is rumored that Ireland assistant coach Mike Catt will be leaving his post after next year’s Six Nations, opening the door for Sexton to potentially take over. Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has praised Sexton’s positive impact on the team and would likely want to keep him involved in some capacity.
Sexton’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable career representing Ireland. He played for his country 119 times, making him the fifth-most-capped player of all time. Throughout his career, Sexton achieved great success, winning four Six Nations Championships, including two Grand Slams. In 2018, he was even named the World Rugby Player of the Year.
While Sexton may have retired from playing, it’s clear that he is not done making an impact in the world of rugby. Whether it’s in his new role at Ardagh Group, his management company, or potentially as a coach for Ireland, Sexton’s passion and dedication to the sport will continue to inspire and influence others for years to come.
