The LSU women’s golf team concluded their fall season with a solid fifth-place finish in The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in Mississippi. Despite missing two key players, Aine Donegan and Ingrid Lindblad, who were competing in the World Amateur Team Championships, the Tigers showcased their talent and determination throughout the season.
In The Ally, LSU posted a 12-over round of 300, finishing at 20-over par 884. Florida claimed the top spot with a 3-under 285, while Mississippi State secured second place at 10-over 874.
Carla Tejedo led the way for LSU, finishing tied for 10th place with a 3-over par 219 for the 54 holes. She displayed consistency and skill with rounds of 74, 70, and 75. Latanna Stone also had a strong performance, moving up seven spots on the final day to finish tied for 13th place at 5-over 221. Taylor Riley and freshman Jordan Fischer also made their mark, finishing in the top 20 at tied 17th and tied 24th place, respectively.
Despite the absence of Donegan and Lindblad, LSU had an impressive fall season with three top-five finishes in four tournaments. They secured a second-place finish in the Cougar Classic and emerged victorious in the Illini Women’s Invitational.
LSU Coach Garrett Runion expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We finished in the top five in three out of four tournaments, which is a positive outcome. Although we faced challenges with a different lineup, the players showed great determination. We had four players in the top 25, but lacked that one player who could go low. However, Jordan Fischer’s 1-under par round in her first collegiate play was a notable achievement. This experience will motivate us to improve and prepare for the upcoming spring season.”
Throughout the fall season, LSU recorded a total of 45 birdies, with Riley leading the team with 11 and Stone close behind with 10. Maisie Filler of Florida claimed the individual title with an impressive 8-under 208.
Looking ahead, the LSU women’s golf team will kick off their spring regular season on February 4th at the Puerto Rico Classic. They will also participate in the Moon Golf Invitational, the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, and the Clemson Invitational.
Despite the challenges faced during the fall season, the LSU women’s golf team has proven their resilience and talent. With their strong performances and determination, they are poised for success in the upcoming spring season.
