Quebec Dad Fights Unfair Hockey Ban for His Son

So, there’s this dad in the West Island, right? And he’s all fired up because his kid got banned from playing hockey. Can you believe it? The dad’s name is Mike Leonardi, and he thinks his son is being used as a pawn to get his personal info. It’s like they’re saying, ‘Sign this waiver or no hockey for you!’ And that’s just not fair, man. It’s straight-up bullying.

Here’s the deal: when Mike registered his son with the Pierrefonds Minor Hockey Association (PMHA), they asked him to sign a waiver. Hockey Quebec, the big boss, wants to share his son’s personal deets with other hockey associations, like Hockey Canada. They want to know stuff like his name, address, age, gender, and contact info. And yeah, they even want to know about his health. I mean, I get it, emergencies happen and all, but why does Hockey Quebec need to give his info to other companies?

So, Mike asked for a list of who they’re sharing the info with, right? And you know what they said? They gave him a tiny list, like it was some big secret. But Mike ain’t having it. He wants the whole shebang, man. And they keep saying no. Can you believe the nerve?

But get this, Hockey Quebec says they gotta do it because of some law called Law 25. They say they need Mike’s consent to share the info, otherwise his kid can’t play. But here’s the thing, according to this lawyer lady named Sara Eve Levac, companies can’t refuse to give you stuff just because you don’t want to share personal info. Unless, of course, that info is necessary for the service you’re asking for. Makes sense, right?

So, what can Mike do? Well, Sara Eve Levac says he can file a complaint with Quebec’s access to information commission if he thinks his rights are being violated. But all Mike wants is for his son to be able to play hockey without all this drama. He’s like, ‘Let him play, and if you have a problem, come after me!’ That’s a dad who’s got his kid’s back.

So, let’s hope they figure this out soon and let the kid hit the ice. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and playing the game we love, right?
