Hey folks! I’ve got some sad news to share. Terry Dischinger, a basketball superstar who made a name for himself in college, the NBA, and the Olympics, passed away at the age of 82. He was truly a legend in the game.
Terry was a force to be reckoned with during his time at Purdue University. Standing tall at 6-foot-7 and weighing 190 pounds, he dominated the court as a center. He was a scoring machine, leading the Big Ten in scoring for three consecutive seasons. Talk about impressive!
Not only was Terry a star in college, but he also represented the United States in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. At just 20 years old, he was the youngest member of the gold medal-winning team. Can you believe it? That’s a remarkable achievement!
Sadly, Terry’s journey came to an end on October 9th in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He passed away at a memory care center due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Terry’s incredible talent. He was a two-time first-team consensus All-American and holds the record for scoring at least 40 points in a game nine times at Purdue. That’s no small feat!
Terry Dischinger will always be remembered as a basketball icon. His contributions to the sport will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Terry.
