Hey basketball fans! The MAC Freedom preseason coaches’ poll is out, and guess what? The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team has been picked as the third-best team in the league. The poll was conducted by the conference’s eight head coaches, so you know it’s legit.

With a total of 37 points, Stevens landed in third place, sandwiched between DeSales and Misericordia. Arcadia, with 46 points and four first-place votes, claimed the top spot as the preseason favorite. Misericordia also received four first-place votes and came in second with 45 points. Last year, Arcadia took home the MAC Freedom title by defeating DeSales 74-61 in the championship game.

Here’s the full poll for you:

1. Arcadia – 46 points
2. DeSales – 45 points
3. STEVENS – 37 points
4. Misericordia – 31 points
5. Delaware Valley – 25 points
6. King’s – 19 points
7. Lebanon Valley – 13 points
8. FDU-Florham – 8 points

Let’s take a look back at Stevens’ performance last season. They finished with a record of 13-14, including a solid 9-7 record in conference play. They even made it to the conference tournament, where they secured a 69-62 victory over Misericordia. Unfortunately, their journey ended with a heartbreaking 65-62 loss to DeSales in the final seconds.

But it wasn’t all bad news for Stevens. Junior Jack Spellman was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and received all-region honors from D3Hoops and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Talk about an impressive achievement!
