The UNI women’s basketball team has been on a successful run, averaging 20 wins in the past six seasons. However, their ultimate goal is to make it back to the NCAA Tournament. Coach Tanya Warren and her staff have identified a few areas for improvement to elevate the team’s performance. One key aspect is the need for the players to become more vocal and hold each other accountable. The team’s top scorers, Grace Bofelli, Maya McDermott, and Emerson Green, are being called upon to step up their leadership on and off the court. They understand the importance of constructive criticism and maintaining strong relationships as teammates. Bofelli, in particular, is working on handling double and triple teams more effectively, which will benefit the team’s pace-and-space offense. Another area of focus is closing out quarters and games. Last season, the Panthers lost several games in the final minutes due to a lack of focus and execution. Warren emphasizes the importance of maintaining intensity and not getting complacent with leads. The team is eager to put their improvements to the test as they open the regular season against Green Bay, the reigning Horizon League champions.
