US Open 2024: No Wheelchair Tennis Due to Paralympics Clash

The 2024 US Open will not feature wheelchair tennis as it coincides with the Paralympics in Paris. This is the fourth time the wheelchair events have been cancelled at Flushing Meadows for the same reason. The US Open starts on August 26 and ends on September 8, while the Paralympics are held during the same fortnight. The decision has received criticism from players, including Andy Lapthorne, who expressed disappointment and highlighted the financial impact on wheelchair tennis players. Lapthorne emphasized that the Grand Slams are crucial for their income, and the cancellation of the US Open will pose challenges for players from countries with limited funding. He also compared the decision to the able-bodied tournaments not being cancelled during the Olympics, suggesting that the event could have been rescheduled instead.
