Hey folks! So, Wales Women are gearing up for a massive showdown against the Black Ferns in the second round of the super cool WXV tournament. This awesome three-tier global women’s competition was just launched by World Rugby, and it’s all about giving more teams a shot at the World Cup. How cool is that? The World Cup is gonna have 16 teams in 2025, so it’s gonna be even more epic!
Now, Wales is in Tier One of the WXV, and they kicked off their campaign with a tough 42-22 loss against Canada. But hey, it wasn’t all bad news. They managed to score three awesome tries, so that’s definitely something to celebrate!
The game took place at the Sky Stadium in Wellington, which can hold almost 35,000 fans. But here’s the bummer – there were quite a few empty seats in the stadium. I mean, come on, guys! Wales totally rocked the house back in April during the Six Nations, packing in nearly 9,000 fans at the Cardiff Arms Park. So, playing in front of a smaller crowd was a bit of a downer for the players.
One of the Welsh players, Abbie Fleming, said it was a little disappointing. She was hoping to see more people showing up for an international fixture like this. But hey, let’s not get too bummed out. This is a new tournament, and things can only get better from here, right?
Abbie also mentioned that even though the crowd was small, she’s got tons of support back home. Her parents, friends, and family wake up early to catch the game on TV. How awesome is that? It’s great to know that the whole nation is cheering them on!
So, let’s keep our spirits high and look forward to bigger and better crowds in the future. This tournament is just getting started, and it’s gonna be one heck of a ride!
