What’s the Deal with the Tennis Courts Cash in Calderdale?

Hey there, folks! So, there’s been a bit of a fuss in Calderdale recently about some cash for tennis courts. Councillor Felicity Issott has been demanding answers about when and where this money will be spent. Back in March 2022, the Lawn Tennis Association gave Calderdale a whopping £165,000, but it seems like nobody can say for sure where it’s going. The council only agreed to accept the money in December 2022, and Coun Issott wants to know which courts will benefit from it. She’s worried that places like Ripponden and Soyland Tennis Club will have to keep playing in Northowram because of the poor court conditions. And let’s not forget that the longer they wait, the less £165,000 will be worth due to inflation. It’s a valid concern, right?

Coun Jenny Lynn, the cabinet member for Public Services and Communities, responded to Coun Issott’s questions. She acknowledged that there had been some correspondence between Coun Issott and a sports officer who tried their best to answer her queries. Coun Lynn promised to take the concerns raised by Coun Issott back to the council. However, she couldn’t say for sure if Ripponden and Soyland court would directly benefit from the funding. But hey, at least work is being done, and the council is grateful for the extra cash.

So, there you have it, folks. The tennis courts cash in Calderdale is causing a bit of a stir. Let’s hope they figure out where to spend it soon so that everyone can enjoy some quality tennis without having to travel all over the place. Until then, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
