The Columbia men’s golf team concluded their fall campaign with a friendly exhibition match against Trinity College Dublin. The match took place at Saint Andrew’s Golf Club and featured four matches worth one point each. Columbia emerged victorious with a score of 3-1.
The first point was secured by Nathan Han and William Sung, who defeated Trinity’s Eoin O’Doherty and Tom Flanagan with a score of 5-and-4. Trinity fought back with a 1-up win in the match between Mikey Mina Ronayne & Eoin Sullivan (Trinity) and Alvin Kwak and George Rubelsky (Columbia).
However, the Lions rallied and won the final two matches to seal the victory. Wyatt McGovern and Darren Pang of Columbia secured a 2-up win against Sam Gammell and Andrew Fraser. The last match featured DJ Francey and Columbia’s Director of Golf, Rich Mueller, facing off against Jan Balik and Jack Flanagan (Trinity). Francey and Mueller emerged victorious with a 1-up win.
According to Rich Mueller, the exhibition match was a great way to bring the team together and conclude the fall season on a positive note. He mentioned the camaraderie on the golf course and expressed his excitement for the upcoming spring championship season, which will begin with the Savannah Harbor Invitational on February 17-18.
