Hey there basketball fans! The Ottawa University men’s basketball team kicked off their home opener with a bang, defeating Kansas Christian College with a final score of 103-91. The game took place at Wilson Field House, and the atmosphere was electric.
Right from the start, the Braves dominated the court, going on a remarkable 27-10 run in the first 9 minutes and 24 seconds. Talk about an impressive start! Ricardo Zambrano’s 3-point field goal extended the lead to 19 points, with the score at 33-14.
However, Kansas Christian College didn’t back down. They fought hard and managed to narrow the gap, bringing the score to 36-27 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first half. But the Braves weren’t about to let their lead slip away. Deondra Buggage’s 3-point field goal at the 2:38 mark pushed the lead back into double digits, with the score at 43-31.
As the first half came to a close, the Falcons made a strong push, ending the half on an 11-3 run. Despite their efforts, the Braves maintained a slim lead of 45-42.
The second half started with a burst of energy from the Braves. They quickly regained their double-digit lead, thanks to Angok Anyang’s impressive 3-point field goal, making the score 62-49. Kansas Christian College, however, refused to go down without a fight. They rallied and managed to cut the Braves’ lead to 68-63 with 11 minutes and 41 seconds left in the game.
But the Braves weren’t about to let their hard work go to waste. Kamren Woods’ jumper extended the lead back to double figures, with the score at 84-73. Deondre Buggage’s two free throws further solidified the Braves’ dominance, giving them an 89-75 lead with just over 6 minutes remaining.
In the final minutes of the game, Ottawa University maintained their composure and didn’t allow Kansas Christian College to mount a comeback. The Braves emerged victorious with a final score of 103-91.
Let’s take a look at the box score. Ottawa shot an impressive 48.7 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from behind the arc, and 82.6 percent from the free throw line. Talk about some impressive shooting!
The Braves had six players who scored in double figures. Deondre Buggage led the team with 23 points and also contributed six assists, one block, and four steals. Jayden Hibbitt had a fantastic performance, recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kamren Woods, Angok Anyang, Payton Kaiser, and Amil Fields also made significant contributions to the team’s victory.
