The Surprising Full Name of Dutch Club NAC Breda That Football Fans Are Just Discovering

Football fans are often amused by the names of players that commentators struggle to pronounce. But there’s one European football club whose full name is a mouthful that most would want to avoid. Dutch second-tier team NAC Breda may seem straightforward at first, but it’s only when you break down the acronym ‘NAC’ that you realize the extent of their moniker. The three letters actually represent a much longer acronym that combines the names of two clubs that merged to form NAC Breda back in 1912. The local clubs ‘NOAD’ and ‘ADVENDO’ were already in competition when they decided to join forces 111 years ago. NOAD stands for ‘Nooit Opgeven, Altijd Doorzetten’ which translates to ‘Never give up, always persevere’ in English. On the other hand, ADVENDO is an abbreviation of ‘Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning’ which means ‘Pleasant through entertainment and useful for relaxation’. Instead of choosing one over the other, the newly formed club decided to keep both messages. The ‘C’ in NAC stands for ‘Combination’ to represent the merger of the two clubs. It’s safe to say that NAC Breda has one of the most unique and lengthy club names in football. Do you think they have the weirdest club name in football? Let us know in the comments below!
