Hey basketball fans! Get ready for an exciting exhibition game as the University of Hawai’i women’s basketball team takes on Hawai’i Hilo. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 at SimpliFI Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. This exhibition game will be the only warm-up before UH’s regular-season opener against No. 15 Stanford on November 8.
The Rainbow Wahine, as they are affectionately known, have a strong history of success. Last season, they won the Big West championship for the second consecutive year and made it to the NCAA Tournament. Although their journey ended with a loss to LSU, they are determined to make a comeback this season.
Coach Laura Beeman, who has been with the team for 12 years, has an impressive collegiate record of 570-258. Under her leadership, the Rainbow Wahine have become a force to be reckoned with.
The team is excited to have 11 returning letterwinners, including three players who earned conference honors. Lily Wahinekapu and Daejah Phillips, both junior guards, were named to the Big West Preseason Coaches’ Team. Wahinekapu, who made the All-Big West first team last season, led the team in points, assists, and steals. Phillips, on the other hand, closed the season strong by scoring in double figures in the last nine games and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Big West Championship.
The Rainbow Wahine also have some talented returning players in Kelsie Imai, MeiLani McBee, Ashley Thoms, and Imani Perez. Olivia Davies, who was limited to three games last season due to injury, is back and ready to make an impact.
But that’s not all! The team has added some promising newcomers to their roster. Brooklyn Rewers, a 6-foot-4 transfer from Michigan State, brings size and experience to the team. Vivienne Berrett, Brooke Murrell, and Jade Peacock, all freshmen, add depth and talent to the squad.
So mark your calendars and come support the Rainbow Wahine as they take on Hawai’i Hilo in this exhibition game. It’s going to be a thrilling match-up that you won’t want to miss. Let’s cheer on our team and show them our aloha spirit!
Go Rainbow Wahine!
