A small high school in Barrie is causing a stir with its Junior Girls’ Basketball Team dominating the court with a 15-game winning streak. The team, made up of Grade 9 and 10 students, has been unstoppable this season. Coach Jerome Garceau, who has been coaching basketball for 15 years, is amazed by the team’s talent and dedication. He describes them as easy to coach, always eager to learn and apply what they’ve learned. The team has already won two tournaments, scored nine three-pointers in a single game, and even held a rival team scoreless. The players are not only skilled but also display good sportsmanship. Grade 10 student Audree Milne acknowledges that some parents may not be happy with their team winning by a large margin, but they always strive to show respect for their opponents. Grade 10 player Maeva Ngeng attributes their success to their hard work and continuous improvement throughout the season. She believes that their progress is evident to anyone who has been following their journey. The team’s chemistry is also a key factor in their success. With a mix of Grade 9 and 10 students, they have developed a strong bond both on and off the court. This close-knit relationship is like a family, and it translates into their performance during games. The team is now focused on the upcoming Simcoe County Championships, where they will face Elmvale District High School. A victory in this game will secure their spot in the Georgian Bay Regional Championships. Coach Garceau is thrilled with the team’s performance and describes them as amazing. The Junior Girls’ Basketball Team from Barrie is definitely a force to be reckoned with!
