A city employee at the Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder has been charged with theft of tools and subsequently terminated from their job. The employee, Steven Toney, allegedly stole two sets of tools and attempted to pawn them. The missing tools were discovered at a nearby pawnshop, leading to Toney’s arrest. The tool sets, which had distinguishing damage, were easily identified as those belonging to the golf course. Toney received $200 for the stolen items. The pawnshop has set the tools aside as evidence and they will eventually be returned to the golf course. City Manager Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde expressed disappointment in the incident, stating that it goes against the city’s value of integrity. While Toney is entitled to a fair trial, his reported behavior is not in line with the expectations of a city employee. The police, along with Human Resources, Parks and Recreation, took the necessary steps in handling the case.
