The UNC Wilmington women’s tennis team had a busy day at the Seahawk Ocean Classic, facing off against Longwood, Appalachian State, and Hampton. The Seahawks split their singles matches with Longwood, winning four out of eight. In doubles, they had a tougher time, winning only two out of six against Appalachian State and Hampton. The second day of the tournament will see the Seahawks taking on Campbell, Davidson, and Hampton. Admission is free for the all-day event at the UNCW Tennis Complex.
In their match against Longwood, the Seahawks had some impressive victories. Eda Arli defeated Feline van Eijkelenburg with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Gabbie Glickstein had a thrilling comeback win against Sophia Marchetta, winning 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (7). Stela Joksimovic dominated her match against Nina Hederich, winning 6-2, 6-1. Elif Albayrak also had a strong performance, defeating Wiktoria Czerny 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles, the Seahawks struggled against Appalachian State and Davidson. They were only able to secure one win out of three matches. However, they bounced back in their match against Hampton, with Arli and Albayrak winning 7-5.
The Seahawk Ocean Classic continues on Saturday, with the Seahawks looking to make a strong showing in doubles against Campbell and Davidson. They will also face Hampton in singles. It promises to be an exciting day of tennis at the UNCW Tennis Complex.
