Guardiola, Haaland, and Shaw Shine at North West Football Awards

Pep Guardiola, Erling Haaland, and Bunny Shaw were honored at the North West Football Awards held at the Point, Old Trafford. The event celebrates the achievements of teams and individuals in the region, recognizing their excellence on and off the field. In the 2022/23 season, these three individuals played a significant role in the success of their respective teams.

Guardiola led Manchester City to an incredible Treble, securing their fifth Premier League title in six seasons and winning the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Wembley. However, the highlight of their season came in Istanbul, where Rodrigo’s goal secured their first-ever Champions League title. Guardiola’s outstanding leadership earned him the Manager of the Season award.

Haaland had an exceptional season, earning him the Premier League Player of the Season award. Since joining Manchester City in 2022, the Norwegian striker has lived up to his goalscoring reputation. He scored an impressive 52 goals in all competitions, breaking a 94-year record set by Tommy Johnson. Haaland’s 36 goals in the Premier League were the most by any player in a single season. His remarkable performance also earned him the FWA and PFA Player of the Year awards, as well as the Gerd Muller trophy and second place in the men’s category at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

But Haaland wasn’t the only record-breaking striker for Manchester City. Bunny Shaw had a sensational season, scoring 31 goals in just 30 appearances for the Women’s team. Her goal tally surpassed Nikita Parris’ record for the most goals in a single season. Shaw also provided nine assists, making her overall goal contribution an impressive 40 involvements. Her outstanding performance earned her the WSL Player of the Season award at the North West Football Awards.
