Hey folks, did you catch the Bellarmine University men’s basketball team in their season opener against Washington? It was a tough game, with Washington taking the win 91-57. Koren Johnson and Keion Brooks Jr. were on fire, scoring a combined 47 points for Washington. Bash Wieland led the charge for Bellarmine with 14 points, but unfortunately, he was the only one in double figures. Alec Pfriem did his part with seven rebounds and three assists, and Landin Hacker nailed three 3-pointers, scoring nine points with four rebounds.
Johnson was unstoppable, scoring a game-high 25 points for Washington, while Brooks Jr. added 22 points. The Huskies were on fire, shooting 62.1 percent and making half of their 20 3-point attempts.
Bellarmine had a strong start, with Peter Suder and Hacker making some impressive plays, but Washington took control and closed the first half with a 20-5 run, leading 35-27 at the break.
Despite Bellarmine’s efforts, Washington dominated the second half, with Johnson leading a 14-0 run that widened the gap to 23 points. Bellarmine fought hard, but Washington’s lead was too much to overcome.
Looking ahead, Bellarmine will face Kansas State on Friday at 8 p.m. (ET). Stay tuned for more updates on BUKnights’ X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook for all the latest on Bellarmine athletics!
