Hey everyone, check out the latest buzz in Jarrow! There’s a brand new women’s rugby team in town, and they’re on a mission to get more ladies into the sport. The club, known as ‘Jarrovians RUFC Lasses’, is super keen to welcome more women to join their team and give rugby a try.
So far, a bunch of awesome ladies have already signed up and have been hitting the training sessions on Friday evenings. They’re gearing up to play some matches next Spring, and they’re pumped about it!
The whole idea for the women’s team came about when the coach’s wife wanted to get into rugby but couldn’t find any female teams around. She felt a bit nervous about starting a team with little experience, and that’s when the club stepped in to make it happen.
Ian Oliphant and Aaron James, the awesome coaches, are totally stoked about this. They’re all about getting more women into sports, and they reckon rugby is the perfect way to do it, no matter what your skill level is.
The team is open to women aged 18 and over, and they’ve got training sessions at the Community Centre, St Lukes Court, Hebburn on Friday evenings from 6pm to 7pm. Rain or shine, they’ve got indoor and outdoor facilities, so there’s no excuse to miss out!
Once the team gets more members and the ladies feel confident, they’ll be taking on matches with other women’s teams. How cool is that?
