Hey golf fans! LIV Golf has just kicked off the sport’s first-ever transfer window, and it’s all happening as we gear up for the 2024 season. The new format of LIV Golf brings in some exciting changes, with player movement, free agency, and new team rosters in the works. In 2023, we saw Talor Gooch from RangeGoats GC clinch the Individual title, while Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC claimed the Team Championship. Now, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of this transfer window.
The individual standings are divided into three categories, determining a player’s status in the league:
1. Lock Zone: Top 24 players secure a spot for the next season.
2. Open Zone: Players finishing 25-44 become free agents as their contracts expire.
3. Drop Zone: Players finishing 45 and below are relegated out of the league but have a chance to earn their spot back in LIV Golf Promotions.
The offseason player movement has several phases:
Phase One: Top 24 contract extensions
Players in the Top 24 Lock Zone are offered a minimum one-year contract extension by their existing team. If they decline, they become free agents.
Phase Two: Free agency
Players finishing 25th to 44th (Open Zone) whose contracts expire are free agents and can negotiate with other teams.
Phase Three: LIV Golf Promotions
An exciting pathway for amateur and professional golfers to play in the LIV Golf League in 2024. The top three finishers will earn a place on one of LIV Golf’s teams next season.
Trades and Draft
Teams may swap players from their rosters, and a mid-season trading window will take place in 2024. The league will also host the LIV Golf Draft to fill the remaining team spots.
Exciting times ahead for LIV Golf! Stay tuned for more updates.
