Navigating Life’s Octopus

Some days are just tough, you know? It’s like you’re playing tennis with an octopus. I’m not the best at tennis, to be honest. I mean, I’ve got the enthusiasm, but the skill? Not so much. And let me tell you, trying to keep up with that bouncing ball and figuring out where to meet it? It’s a real challenge. It’s like an octopus throwing eight balls at you when you’re only expecting one. It’s overwhelming, to say the least.

But you know what? It’s not just about tennis. It’s about life, work, and all that tech stuff too. It took me a long time to realize that what succeeds and what thrives are not always the same. Luck plays a big part in it. Sometimes, even the most mediocre idea can take off, and the most unlikeable person can come out on top. It’s all about luck and randomness.

We see it all the time at work, don’t we? Those who seem to get away with doing less or being less, just because they know how to play the game. It’s like finding a beautiful love song in the middle of unexpected places. You wouldn’t expect it, but there it is.

And that song, it speaks volumes. When the octopus is throwing eight balls at you, it’s like juggling priorities at work. You’re focused on the most important thing, and then suddenly, curve balls start coming from all directions. It’s frustrating, to say the least.

I’ve seen it all – from colleagues scoring cheap points to unnecessary meetings and emails that distract us from the real work. And let’s not forget the fine line between substance and pretence, between tough love and a waste of time. It’s a line that’s often crossed, and most people don’t even notice.

But I do. And maybe, just maybe, our organisations should care to notice it too. What do you think?
