The Washington College men’s basketball team kicked off their season with an exciting win on the road against St. Mary’s (Md.). Despite being down by 12 points at halftime, the team staged a remarkable comeback, forcing the game into overtime with a stellar defensive effort in the second half. Ultimately, Washington College emerged victorious, securing a 76-70 win in overtime.
How It Went Down
The Seahawks came out strong, establishing a 20-10 lead early in the first half. However, the Shoremen fought back with a 14-4 run, tying the game at 24 and then taking a 28-27 lead. The hosts finished the first half with a 45-33 advantage after a 17-6 run.
In the second half, the Seahawks maintained their lead, holding a 52-41 advantage with 16 minutes remaining. It was then that Kedrick Frink took charge, scoring the next ten points for Washington College and leading a strong defensive effort that put the Shoremen ahead by one. The game remained intense, with both teams trading baskets until the final minute. With the score tied at 65, Frink had a chance to win the game but narrowly missed, sending the game into overtime.
The overtime period belonged to the Shoremen, with a strong finish from Marcus Scott extending their lead to eight points with just over a minute remaining. St. Mary’s was unable to mount a comeback, and the Shoremen secured the victory.
Standout Performances
Kedrick Frink led the Shoremen with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Paul Rodolf contributed 20 points and Marcus Scott scored 16. Washington College shot 50% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range, and 65% from the free-throw line.
For St. Mary’s, Micha Henry led the scoring with 21 points. The Seahawks shot 43.3% from the field, 36.8% from three-point range, and 41.7% from the free-throw line.
