Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers is not a fan of VAR, and he’s not afraid to say it. In fact, he’s so fed up with it that he’s ready to ditch it and go back to the good old days of ‘pure football.’ The former Liverpool and Leicester boss admits that VAR needed time to settle in, but now he thinks it’s ruining the game. He recently had a taste of VAR’s impact during his team’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, where a red card was given based on a distorted image of a challenge. Rodgers believes that this kind of decision spoils the game for both players and fans. He’s not alone in his frustration, as St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has also questioned whether VAR is actually making Scottish football better. Robinson, who was once a supporter of VAR, now feels that it’s holding back the spontaneous joy of the game. Both managers are open to the idea of scrapping VAR if it’s not making the game better. Rodgers, in particular, is ready to trade in the technology for the human element of the game, even if it means accepting a few mistakes along the way. It’s clear that these managers are not impressed with VAR, and they’re not afraid to speak out about it. Will their voices be heard? Only time will tell.
