The Wildcat hockey team took a break from the ice to pitch in at Wilson Elementary’s Turkey Lunch, and it was a big hit! Nearly 600 people gathered to enjoy a meal together, and the team was right in the mix. Coach Ben Henry is all about showing love to the community. He’s stoked about the support they’ve received, saying, “Some folks came to our games last year who had never been to a hockey match before. They came because we’ve had their backs, or they’ve seen us out and about, which is epic. It’s all about boosting the sport in Alpena and turning our town into a hockey haven once more. Plus, it’s awesome to see the little ones hanging out with the Wildcats; those kids look at us like we’re superheroes.”
The players got involved in every aspect of the event and found real joy in giving back. Michael Kreis, the assistant team captain, shared, “We served up grub to the kids, their folks, and their grandparents. And if there were kids flying solo, we made sure to sit with them and chow down. We hooked them up with food, tidied up, got them drinks, chatted with them in the classrooms, and even hit the playground for recess.” Team captain Garret Hamp added, “It’s all about giving back to the community. They’ve been there for us, so we’re showing them some love and gratitude for showing up and cheering us on at our games.” The team had a blast hanging out with the community, especially the little ones who are the future Wildcats.
As they gear up for the 2023-2024 season, they’re amped up to see the community backing them once again.
