Lindenwood Men’s Ice Hockey Triumphs with a Thrilling 5-3 Victory

The Lindenwood men’s ice hockey team bounced back with an impressive 5-3 win over Augustana, showing their true team spirit after a tough overtime loss on Friday night. The Centene Community Ice Center was buzzing with the Lion’s ROAR as LU battled the Vikings to secure a well-deserved victory.

The game kicked off with an amazing goal by Kyle Jeffers, assisted by Kabore Dunn and Coltan Wilkie, at 4:13. Dunn then scored a goal of his own at 8:39, with an assist from Ethan Zielke. Luke Mobley managed to score the first goal for the Vikings at 12:23, cutting Lindenwood’s lead in half. The Vikings’ second goal came at 9:23, courtesy of Quinn Rudrud, bringing the score to 2-2.

The Lions then took the lead with a powerplay goal by Jake Southgate, assisted by Jeffers and Caleb Price. The third period was a thrilling one for the Lions as they dominated the game. Cade DeStefani scored at 2:06, followed by Zachary Aughe’s smooth goal at 13:05, putting Lindenwood ahead 5-2. The Vikings managed to score once more, with Jack Jensen finding the net on a powerplay, but it wasn’t enough to catch up.

Head Coach Rick Zombo expressed his joy at the win, emphasizing the importance of learning from the sacrifices made to achieve victory at this level. He hopes the team can retain this knowledge for future games.

Looking ahead, Lindenwood will face Long Island University (LIU) on Friday and Saturday, November 17th and 18th, with puck drop scheduled for 7:10 pm and 2:10 pm, respectively.
