The Pac-12 just dropped the news on its women’s basketball performance awards, sponsored by Nextiva, for the games played from November 6 to November 12. The winners were voted on by the media folks who cover the league.
Player of the Week goes to Aaronette Vonleh, Jr., C, Colorado (West Linn, Ore.). This baller scored an average of 18.3 points per game, grabbed 7.0 rebounds, dished out 3.0 assists, and shot a whopping 74.2% from the field. She really showed up in the game against top-ranked LSU, dropping 24 points and shooting an impressive 73.3% from the floor. Not to mention, she also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists against the reigning national champion Tigers. In another game, she recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and then wrapped up the weekend with 18 points on an incredible 85.7% shooting from the field in the win against Oklahoma State. This is her first Player of the Week award, and it’s Colorado’s eighth all-time.
The Freshman of the Week title goes to JuJu Watkins, Fr., G, USC (Los Angeles). This rookie put up an average of 25.0 points per game, grabbed 6.5 rebounds, dished out 3.5 assists, and blocked 1.5 shots per game. She made a huge statement in her collegiate debut, leading No. 21 USC to a season-opening win over No. 7 Ohio State with a whopping 32 points, six boards, and five assists. Her 32 points against Ohio State were the most by a Pac-12 freshman since USC’s Alissa Pili in 2020, and it’s a new USC record for points scored in a freshman debut. She also showed off her shooting skills, hitting 61.1% from the field and 90% from the line against the Buckeyes. In another game, she contributed seven rebounds and a pair of blocks along with 18 points in the win over Florida Gulf Coast. This is USC’s 12th Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor all-time.
