The UNT women’s basketball team took a tough hit in their first loss of the season against Texas A&M. The game went down at Texas A&M, and the Mean Green just couldn’t keep up, ending with a score of 74-55. Jaaucklyn Moore led the team with 16 points, and DesiRay Kernal wasn’t far behind with 12 points. These two have been on fire, scoring in double digits in all three games this season.
The Aggies came out strong, hitting five 3-pointers in the first quarter and building a 29-13 lead. It was a rough start for the Mean Green, and things got even tougher when A&M went on an 11-0 run in the second quarter. But hey, Kernal managed to break the scoring drought with a sweet 3-pointer.
After trailing 49-22 at the half, UNT made a comeback with a 5-0 run to start the second half. Kernal nailed another 3-pointer, and Desiree Wooten added five points of her own. The Mean Green fought hard, even shrinking the lead to 12 points late in the game. But A&M sealed the deal with a 6-0 run of their own.
Coach Jason Burton was proud of the team’s second-half performance, highlighting their toughness and resilience. He emphasized the importance of playing basketball without worrying about the score, and he’s confident that the team will bounce back.
Looking ahead, the Mean Green will face off against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday night. It’s part of their five-game road stint, and they’re determined to come back stronger.
