Bromsgrove Rovers AFC had their first home game since September on Saturday and managed to secure their second league win of the season. The team played at their South Bromsgrove High School base and emerged as worthy 2-0 winners against Hampton Sports. The victory included a first-half goal from Ben Ellicott and a second-half free-kick from Ash Pardoe, marking the team’s first clean-sheet in the league this season.
The game was a breeze for Rovers, thanks to their solid defense and the visitors’ inability to pose a real threat. Even when Bromsgrove had two players in the sin bin for dissent, the visitors failed to trouble the home goal. Ben Ellicott opened the scoring with a neat finish from inside the box, set up by Keian Savage. The Greens had several opportunities to extend their lead, including a goalmouth scramble and a long-range effort from Savage that narrowly missed the target.
In the second half, Rovers continued to press forward, with Ellicott making several attempts to increase the lead. On the 66th minute, Ash Pardoe scored a fierce low shot from a free-kick, securing the 2-0 lead. Despite Hampton’s efforts to reduce the arrears, Rovers maintained their lead and even had opportunities to further extend it.
Manager Spencer Machin commented, “It was a hard-fought win, but it was good to be back at Bromsgrove.” With this victory, the Greens moved up to sixth place in the table, earning seven points and gaining the support of a growing number of fans following the Club’s appeal for more support.
