The Brightwell Tennis Club recently held its club finals day, and it was a blast! The weather was on our side, and it was a perfect day for some tennis action. Members and their families gathered to socialize, watch some thrilling tennis matches, and indulge in delicious burgers and cake. It was a day filled with fun and excitement.
The heavy rain tried to spoil the party, but it couldn’t dampen our spirits. The men’s singles final between James Chamberlin and junior champion Luca Cimino had to be postponed due to the rain. However, the ladies showed incredible determination, and we have a new champion! 15-year-old Isabella Norman emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Wendy Poon. Norman’s impressive performance made her the youngest winner of an adult singles event at Brightwell.
In the ladies’ doubles, Cat McKeracher and Caroline Weaver put up a fantastic fight to retain their title, defeating Jackie West and Vic Brown in a nail-biting match. The mixed doubles event saw an intense battle, with West and Ben Wiltshire successfully defending their title against James Chamberlin and Claire Horsnell. Chamberlin and Wiltshire joined forces in the men’s doubles and secured a well-deserved victory against Tom Else and Finley West.
The men’s plate was claimed by Harry Asprey, who showcased his skills in a thrilling match against Jude Hinchliff. The under-17 singles final was a real nail-biter, with Cimino emerging as the victor after a fierce battle against Ryan Housley. The under-14 singles event was equally exciting, with Alex Thorley emerging triumphant against Lucas Davenport.
The young talents also shone bright on the court. Edmund Newton clinched the under-11 boys’ singles title after a thrilling match against Arthur Gudgen. In the under-nine singles, Edmund Newton and Jemima Gudgen emerged as the champions in the boys’ and girls’ events, respectively, after some thrilling matches.
