this Saturday is going to be epic because it’s NSW Pride’s last home match of the season! It’s our chance to cheer on the team and give them a proper send-off into the 2023 JDH Hockey One final series next weekend. And guess what? We’ll also get to see our Kookaburra and Hockeyroos players in action before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Both the men’s and women’s teams of NSW Pride have already secured their spots in the final series, but there’s still the One Hockey Cup up for grabs. This Saturday, they’re up against Adelaide Fire, and it’s the last shot for NSW Pride to claim the cup. Right now, NSW Pride is leading the table, but we’ve got a state of origin battle on our hands with Brisbane Blaze hot on our tail. So, let’s hope for some big wins this weekend to boost Pride’s chances of winning the One Hockey Cup.
In other news, three NSW Pride women’s players – Grace Young, Alana Kavanagh, and Makayla Jones – have been chosen to represent the Jillaroos in the upcoming FIH Hockey Junior Women’s World Cup in Chile. That means they won’t be available for the rest of the 2023 JHD Hockey One League season.
But here’s the exciting part – this has opened up opportunities for some new faces in the NSW Pride squad. We’re talking about Newcastle’s 18-year-old Ellie Baldwin, Miri Maroney from Sutherland Shire, Meike Van Haeringen from Sydney Uni, and 19-year-old Ella Carr from Central Coast. These talented players are all set to make their debut this weekend, and we can’t wait to see them in action!
The men’s team of NSW Pride is also welcoming two debutants – Goalkeeper Nathan Ackroyd from Illawarra South Coast and 21-year-old Michael Taylor from the Central Coast. And here’s a fun twist – the men’s match is going to be a real battle of the brothers, with NSW-born Blake and Kieran Govers facing off in their first Hockey One league match against each other.
