Two Sisters from Mexico Find a Home in Elon’s Women’s Tennis Team
It’s not every day that you find two sisters playing on the same Division I team, but that’s exactly the case for Lizette and Mariana Reding. Hailing from Leon, Mexico, these sisters have made their mark on the international tennis circuit and are now proud members of the Elon University women’s tennis team.
Growing up, Lizette and Mariana were immersed in the world of tennis, traveling around the globe to compete while balancing their education through online schooling. College tennis was never on their radar until a mutual friend introduced Lizette to Elon’s women’s tennis head coach, Elizabeth Anderson. Lizette, who had previously played on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit, had never considered attending college in the United States until the opportunity at Elon presented itself.
After a successful recruitment process, Lizette found herself at Elon, where she quickly fell in love with the school and the team. Two years later, it was Mariana’s turn to embark on her college tennis journey, and she too found herself drawn to Elon, ultimately joining her sister on the team.
Transitioning from online schooling in Mexico to college life in the U.S. was a challenge for Lizette, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with her experience, she was able to guide Mariana through the adjustment, providing valuable support and advice.
On the court, the competitive spirit between the sisters is evident, with each pushing the other to excel. Off the court, they take their academics seriously and have seamlessly integrated into the women’s tennis team at Elon, embodying the values of hard work and dedication.
The Reding sisters credit their parents for their unwavering support and sacrifices, acknowledging the pivotal role their father played in their tennis journey. Their parents’ dedication and sacrifices have been instrumental in shaping Lizette and Mariana’s tennis careers.
As they look ahead to the upcoming season, Lizette and Mariana are excited to share the court once again, with Lizette’s senior season and Mariana’s freshman year coinciding. Their bond as sisters and teammates is a source of strength and motivation for both, as they continue to make their mark in the world of college tennis.
The Reding sisters’ journey is a testament to the power of family, dedication, and passion, and their presence on the Elon women’s tennis team is a true reflection of their commitment to the sport and each other.
Join us in celebrating the inspiring journey of Lizette and Mariana Reding as they continue to shine on and off the court, representing the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the Elon University women’s tennis team.
