Two students from the University of Stirling are set to go head-to-head in the final of the FOSROC Super Series Championship, the top domestic rugby competition in Scotland. Samuel Rockley, a member of the Stirling Wolves squad, will face off against Christopher Elliot, who plays for the Ayrshire Bulls, the current champions. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh this Saturday and will be broadcasted by the BBC and on the Scottish Rugby website for international viewers.
The tournament aims to bridge the gap between amateur and professional rugby and serves as the first step on the high-performance rugby ladder in senior adult rugby.
Samuel Rockley, a first-year student studying BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching, expressed his excitement for the final, especially since he will be playing against a fellow Stirling student. He mentioned, “I’m really looking forward to the final and playing against a fellow Stirling student adds an extra edge to the match. We’ve put in a lot of hard work to get to this stage, and we’re going to give it our all to secure the win in front of our supporters.”
Christopher Elliot, a third-year student pursuing a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science, also shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming game, saying, “We’re really excited for Saturday’s game – it’s going to be one of the biggest matches I have played in. The ongoing support from the University of Stirling Sport’s strength and conditioning team has significantly improved my performance this season. The atmosphere on Saturday is going to be amazing, with a lot of friends and family coming to support us.”
This will be the first time that two students from the University of Stirling have been part of rival teams competing for the FOSROC Super Series Championship.
Cathy Gallagher, Executive Director of Sport at the University of Stirling, commented, “It’s fantastic to see two University of Stirling students competing in the FOSROC Super Series final this weekend, the highest domestic rugby competition in Scotland. The University has been a partner with Stirling Country Rugby Football Club since the beginning of the competition, providing an excellent performance opportunity for dual career athletes studying at Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence. While our support will be with Stirling Wolves on Saturday, we also wish Christopher well as part of the Ayrshire Bulls squad.”
The University of Stirling’s sports scholarships are part of the largest high-performance sports programme in the UK, sending athletes to Olympic, World, and Commonwealth Games. For more information, click here.
