The Fordham University women’s basketball team faced off against Manhattan in a Friday night showdown, and despite a strong effort, they fell short with a final score of 58-44. Aminata Ly, the starting center for the Rams, put up an impressive performance, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, marking her first double-double with the team. Emy Hayford also contributed 10 points, continuing her trend of strong performances in recent games.
Although the Rams didn’t secure the win, they managed to limit Manhattan to just five point scorers, all of whom were starters. Additionally, Fordham dominated in the paint, outscoring the Jaspers 30-12. The Rams also showcased their defensive prowess, matching their opponents in rebounds and recording double-digit steals for the fourth consecutive game.
The game started with a low-scoring first period, with both teams neck and neck at 12-11. However, Manhattan gained momentum in the second quarter, building a ten-point lead by halftime. Despite Manhattan’s efforts to extend their lead after the break, the Rams fought back in the fourth quarter, delivering their best shooting performance of the night and narrowing the gap. Aminata Ly played a crucial role in the comeback, scoring seven of her ten points and securing half of her rebounds in the final quarter.
Looking ahead, the Fordham women’s basketball team will take on Georgian Court at the Rose Hill Gym on Monday. The game is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. and will be the first of four games broadcast live on the YES Network.
