The University of Maine men’s basketball team had a tough loss against North Florida, falling 67-58 in a close game. North Florida got off to a strong start with Chaz Lanier scoring 11 straight points, giving them an early 11-2 lead. But Maine fought back with a 10-3 run of their own, narrowing the gap and keeping the game competitive.
The Black Bears managed to take the lead at 10:02 with a corner-three from Quion Burns, assisted by Jaden Clayton, putting them ahead 18-17. However, North Florida regained the lead and finished the first half with a 38-28 advantage.
In the first half, Kellen Tynes stood out with eight points, five assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Adam Cisse also contributed with eight points and three rebounds, while Quion Burns added five points to the scoreboard.
The second half saw both teams trading baskets, with North Florida maintaining their double-digit lead. It wasn’t until Kellen Tynes made a mid-range jumper that Maine managed to cut the deficit to nine points. A 10-0 run by Maine brought the score to 49-48, making it a close game with 11:02 remaining.
The Black Bears fought hard and tied the game at 56-56 after a steal by Tynes and a layup by Clayton. However, North Florida responded with an 11-2 run in the final six minutes, securing a 67-58 victory over Maine.
Kellen Tynes had an impressive performance, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Adam Cisse also contributed with 10 points and six rebounds, while AJ Lopez and Quion Burns added 8 and 7 points respectively.
Despite the loss, Maine (3-3) will continue their Florida tour as they prepare to face the University of South Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 22, with the game scheduled for 7 P.M.
