The University of Minnesota Duluth men’s basketball team, ranked No.12, wrapped up the 2023 Haribo Invitational with an impressive 105-62 victory over the Davenport University Panthers. This marked their first triple-digit performance since last season against Crookston.
First Half: UMD (49) – DAV (35)
The Bulldogs got off to a strong start in tonight’s game, scoring the first two baskets in quick succession. They maintained their lead well, preventing the Panthers from scoring consecutive baskets. In the last five minutes of the first half, the Bulldogs went on a nine-point run, securing a 14-point lead at halftime.
UMD displayed an impressive shooting performance in the first half, making 18 out of 28 field goals, including five three-pointers. Their 61.5% free throw percentage further boosted their offense, allowing them to maintain the lead throughout the first 20 minutes.
Final Score: UMD (105) – DAV (62)
Despite conceding the first five points of the second half, the UMD defense stepped up in the final 20 minutes. They prevented the Panthers from scoring consecutive baskets once again and dominated the rebounding battle, securing 24 total rebounds compared to Davenport’s six. UMD outscored the Panthers 56-27 in the second half, achieving their first triple-digit score of the season.
In the final 20 minutes, the Bulldogs shot 19-26 with a 73.1% field goal percentage, including 8-12 on three-pointers and 10-14 on free throws. Their strong defensive performance, with 19 defensive rebounds, contributed to their 22 points in the paint and sealed an undefeated weekend.
Top Performers
Graduate student Drew Blair had an outstanding game, shooting 9-14 with a 64.3% field goal percentage and making 6-11 three-pointers, leading the game with 24 points. He also recorded four rebounds and two steals. Graduate student Jack Middleton achieved a perfect 5-5 from the field, including four three-pointers, and led the game with six assists.
