Monomoy Field Hockey: A Season of Triumph and Growth

The Monomoy field hockey team may have lost the state championship, but they’re still celebrating their incredible 2023 season. The Sharks made history by reaching the state championship for the first time ever, but unfortunately, they fell short with a 4-0 loss to Uxbridge. Despite the defeat, the Sharks put up a good fight and created several scoring opportunities, keeping the pressure on Uxbridge goalie Julia Okenquist.

Uxbridge managed to score a goal in each of the four quarters, but the Sharks never gave up. Head coach Kyle Cappallo expressed his pride in the team, acknowledging that reaching this far is a remarkable achievement. He emphasized that while it’s not the ending they hoped for, the team has a lot to be proud of.

This season marked a significant milestone for the Sharks, surpassing their previous accomplishments by making it to the state championship. Coach Cappallo revealed that the team set out with the goal of going further than before, and they certainly achieved that. With a regular season record of 13-2-3, the Sharks demonstrated their strength and determination.

Despite their loss, the Monomoy field hockey team is young and full of potential. Their journey to the state title game included a remarkable comeback victory over Manchester Essex, showcasing their resilience and skill. Coach Cappallo sees this as just the beginning for the team, emphasizing the importance of the experience gained from their playoff runs.

Looking ahead, the Sharks have a promising future, with the majority of the team set to return next season. Graduating only one senior, Susannah Brown, the team will benefit from the valuable experience gained this year. Brown, reflecting on her time with the team, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to grow and succeed in the future.

Susannah Brown, a standout player and leader for the Sharks, has made a lasting impact on the team. Coach Cappallo commended her for her leadership and positive influence on the underclassmen, highlighting her significant contribution to the team’s unity and spirit.

As the Sharks move forward, there is a strong sense of optimism and determination. With a combination of youth, experience, and skill, the team is poised for continued success. Coach Cappallo affirmed that the goal for the upcoming seasons is clear: to return to the state championship and build on their achievements.

The Monomoy field hockey team’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring, and their resilience and determination have set the stage for future triumphs. As they look ahead to the 2024 season, the Sharks are focused on reaching new heights and making their mark in the state championship once again.
