The Marshall University Men’s Basketball team concluded the Cayman Islands Classic with a 78-71 defeat against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. In response, the team’s head coach, Dan D’Antoni, conveyed his disappointment regarding the team’s 20 percent shooting on three-pointers, underscoring the imperative need for enhanced efficiency. Despite this setback, noteworthy performances were observed from Nate Martin, who clinched his third double-double of the season, and Kevon Voyles, who contributed a team-high 18 points.
Despite initiating an 11-2 run and briefly leading in the first half, Marshall ultimately found themselves trailing by one point at halftime. The Golden Grizzlies maintained control in the second half, ultimately causing Marshall’s defeat. Nonetheless, the team demonstrated resilience by scoring 16 second-chance points and garnering 17 points from the bench players.
Looking forward, Marshall is set to face the No. 16/16 Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Kentucky. The upcoming game is scheduled for Friday at Rupp Arena.
