The Rise of Weaubleau Lady Tigers: A Promising Season Awaits

The Weaubleau Girls Basketball team is poised for a promising 2023-24 winter season. Led by a formidable quartet of key players, the team is set to build on their previous successes and make a solid impact on the court. With two all-conference seniors, Sutton Mitchell and Jaylee Daggett, at the helm, the team boasts a strong foundation. Mitchell, a first-team all-conference player, showcased her outstanding skills by averaging 14.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, while Daggett, a force to be reckoned with, contributed 13.9 points and a team-leading 9 rebounds per game.

Completing the senior class are senior guard Tayler Ashlock and senior post Nichole Carney. Ashlock, known for her agility and prowess, averaged 4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, displaying exceptional on-court capabilities. On the other hand, Carney made her presence felt by securing 2.3 rebounds per game, anchoring the team’s defensive line.

Adding to the team’s strength, junior forward Julianna Hensley is poised to play a pivotal role in dominating the rebounding game, while the sophomore sensation Sophia Weaver, renowned for her shooting accuracy and defensive tenacity, is set to continue her impressive performance after averaging 5.9 points per game in her freshman season.

In a testament to the team’s potential, freshman guard Masyn Ashlock is gearing up to make a significant impact at the varsity level, showcasing immense promise and talent. Furthermore, the increased depth of this year’s Weaubleau Lady Tigers, with a rise in numbers from 8 to 14, augurs well for their overall strength and adaptability.

Excited about the team’s growth and increased cohesion, Weaubleau head coach Sue Ginnings expressed optimism, stating, “Last year was a rebuilding year for us, with everyone learning their roles on the team. I believe that we are now comfortable with them and can continue to grow within those roles.”

Looking ahead, the Weaubleau Lady Tigers will embark on their season-opening journey at the Warsaw Tournament from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exhilarating season filled with determination and resilience.

Coach Ginnings reflects on the team’s unwavering spirit, asserting, “These girls exude a ‘no quit’ attitude, which I hope will reinforce our reputation of being the team that should never be underestimated. Their unwavering resolve is a testament to the unpredictable and remarkable feats they are capable of achieving.”
