Xiaomi Takes the Electric Avenue: Sneak Peek of Their First EV on the Highway!

Oi, you lot, have a butcher’s at this – Xiaomi, that big-shot tech gear company from the Land of the Dragon, is all set to roll out their very own electric motors, and guess what? Some nosy parker with a camera phone has only gone and caught their first whip, the SU7, out for a spin.

Don’t think we’re yapping about some dodgy, can’t-see-a-thing photo taken from a mile away. Nah, this is the proper undercover James Bond stuff! We’ve got a cheeky glimpse of the SU7’s back end and its sides, all caught on film out on the open road, even though it’s got this fancy camo gear on trying to keep it hush-hush till it’s big show-off time later in the year.

Can you believe it? There it was, the SU7 on some highway in China during the twilight hours, trying to stay inconspicuous, until – oops! – the driver clocks they’re being captured on video and suddenly, it’s like a high-speed chase! But let me tell you, they couldn’t shake the camera, even clocking over 200 km/h, and we got a good peep at Xiaomi’s fresh set of wheels.

And that’s not the half of it – our roadway snapper also nabbed a few shots of the side so you can have a butcher’s at what it’s shaping up to be. Alright, we ain’t got the full lowdown yet, but the web’s already fluttering with the first-official-looking snaps showing off the SU7’s bang-up-to-date design.

For the car nuts reading this: some official blab has let slip that the SU7’s gonna come with rear-wheel drive, a nifty 220 kW engine, and it can belt it out at a max of 210 km/h. It’s also packing an LFP battery made by BYD that weighs in at a hefty 1,980 kg. And if you fancy something with an extra bit of pep, get this – the posher model’s kitted out with all-wheel drive, two engines chucking out a mighty 495 kW, and can hit the heights of 265 km/h thanks to a CATL NMC battery. It’s even kitted out with a fancy rear wing and weighs a fair old bit, but still, just 2,205 kg.

Size-wise, the SU7’s a proper beast – we’re gabbing nearly 5 metres long, close to 2 metres wide, and a smidge over 1.5 metres tall, with a wheelbase that’s a full 3 metres. That means this baby is longer and broader than the likes of a Tesla Model 3 or Nio ET5, so you motorheads better be ready for some seriously nifty handling.

Xiaomi’s plotting to let loose three versions of the SU7 at the start of 2024, and if you’ve got the cash to splash, you could bag the entry model for about 39,000 to 40,000 Euros – that’s something like 300,000 CNY. And get this – there’s a decent chance these electric beauts might end up zipping around worldwide.

So keep your ears to the ground, and let’s see if Xiaomi can really make a splash from our pockets straight to the motorway!
