The Penn State Nittany Lions are set to compete against Lindenwood in an exciting post-Thanksgiving series at Pegula Ice Arena in Hockey Valley, University Park, Pa., this forthcoming weekend. This event will mark the first-ever encounter between the two teams, as Lindenwood becomes the 40th distinct NCAA Division I team that the Nittany Lions have faced. Lindenwood, in its second season in NCAA Division I, is currently one of six schools competing independently for the 2023-24 season.
Lindenwood goes into the weekend with a 3-7-2 overall record and aims to further their recent successes, having triumphed in two of their last three games against Augustana and LIU. However, the team is without the services of three of its top five scorers from last season. Nonetheless, freshman Jake Southgate has emerged as a prominent figure, leading Lindenwood with 10 points and a career-long four-game point streak.
Conversely, the Penn State Nittany Lions are coming off an impressive victory against No. 12 Michigan, marking the 200th win in program history. The team’s freshmen have been making significant contributions, with the ‘Kid Line’ comprising Aiden Fink, Reese Laubach, and Matt DiMarsico, exhibiting a remarkable performance. Additionally, freshmen Aiden Fink and Matt DiMarsico were recognized as Big Ten Hockey’s Second and Third Star of the Week, respectively, following their outstanding contributions.
The special teams also played a crucial role in Penn State’s recent split against No. 12 Michigan, showcasing their prowess in both the powerplay and penalty kill. Looking to the future, the Nittany Lions remain diligent as they prepare to resume Big Ten play in a series against No. 8 Minnesota next Friday and Saturday evening.
