Théo Pourchaire, French Racing Driver, got candid in an interview with RMC Sport, expressing his thoughts and emotions about his current season in Formula 2, his role as a third driver for Alfa Romeo in Formula 1, and his plans for the future.
Pourchaire expressed his confidence as he heads to Abu Dhabi for the upcoming race, stating that despite having a lead, he remains focused on the task at hand. “I remain concentrated, I know what I have to do. I have confidence in myself and the team, so I think we’re going to do it,” Pourchaire stated. The anticipation of getting back on the track has built up during the almost three-month break since the last race in Monza. “The wait is extremely long! More than two and a half months without driving, without doing what I love,” he said.
Pourchaire also discussed his journey in Formula 2, acknowledging the highs and lows of the season. “I had a strong start to the season in Bahrain with a pole position and a win. After that, there were ups and downs,” he mentioned. However, he expressed optimism, stating, “I have the championship to play for, and I’d like to finish my career in Formula 2 on a high note.”
As a third driver for Alfa Romeo in Formula 1, Pourchaire discussed the responsibilities that come with the role. “It’s immense responsibility because if a driver can’t race in a Grand Prix, I’m the one who replaces them, so I have to be ready at all times,” he shared. Pourchaire also mentioned that the experience has allowed him to immerse himself in the world of F1, providing valuable learning opportunities.
Looking ahead, Pourchaire discussed his aspirations for the future, stating that he aims to continue racing in a capacity that will prepare him for Formula 1. “There are championships in which I could do it, and we are in discussions. I hope to have the opportunity to race, to fight for something,” Pourchaire expressed. Regarding the possibility of competing in the Super Formula in Japan, Pourchaire stated, “I think the Super Formula is a good championship. The vehicle is very fast, the level is very high.”
Despite his eagerness to progress to Formula 1, Pourchaire acknowledged the importance of patience. “It’s vital to be patient, and I think it’s one of the things that I find the most difficult to control because I am close to F1. It’s my dream, but I have to wait,” Pourchaire said, expressing his belief in his abilities and the importance of being patient.
As Pourchaire’s career continues to unfold, racing enthusiasts eagerly await his next moves as he navigates the competitive world of Formula 2 and paves his way towards a future in Formula 1.
