The 2023 Australian Tennis Championships concluded in Melbourne, featuring an impressive showcase of talent within the country. Experts in the field of Tennis with an intellectual impairment (PWII) as well those who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHoH) participated in this annual event.
The tournament lasted for four days, gathering a total of 69 players competing for the national titles at the Albert Reserve at Tennis World from 23rd to 26th November. Queensland’s Archie Graham once again demonstrated his exemplary skills, securing both the men’s singles and doubles titles in the II-1 division for PWII athletes. The event also witnessed a shift in the II-1 women’s singles division, with South Australia’s Andriana Petrakis emerging victorious over the top-ranked Australian Kelly Wren from New South Wales.
Rhylee Jackson from Queensland emerged as the star of the DHoH category by winning three national titles. The competition saw players from across the seven Australian states and territories showcasing their tennis prowess, with players of all ages and abilities participating in the event.
Additionally, the opening ceremony of the event was graced by former world No. 1 doubles player John Fitzgerald, who commended the success of the tournament and celebrated the participation of players in the Championships.
