Exciting Tennis Action Coming to Pāpāmoa Next Month

The upcoming tennis events in Pāpāmoa are set to be thrilling and engaging, as the EVES Open and the New Zealand Wheelchair Tennis National Championships prepare to grace the sky-blue hard courts of Pāpāmoa Tennis Club at the Venture Developments WBOP Tennis Centre in Gordon Spratt Reserve.

Nikki Howlett, President of the New Zealand Wheelchair Tennis, has expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership with Tennis New Zealand for the national championships. The focus of this collaboration is to raise awareness and promote wheelchair tennis in an effort to encourage greater participation in the sport.

The EVES Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour event, is a professional tournament for men and women that boasts a total prize pool of US$40,000. The previous edition of the tournament was highly successful, drawing large crowds with its intense matches and vibrant atmosphere.

Julie Paterson, Chief Executive of Tennis New Zealand, has expressed her excitement about the simultaneous hosting of the New Zealand Wheelchair Tennis National Championships and the EVES Open in Pāpāmoa. This aligns with the goal of increasing participation in wheelchair tennis and nurturing future Paralympic representatives from New Zealand.

Tiffiney Perry, a seasoned wheelchair tennis player and Paralympian, is optimistic about the national championships being integrated into the EVES Open tournament, believing that it will enhance the visibility of wheelchair tennis and attract more disabled players to the sport.

Suzanne Morrison from Parafed Bay of Plenty has also expressed her excitement about the upcoming event, emphasizing the opportunity it presents for the growth of wheelchair tennis within the region. She extended her best wishes to all the players and encouraged the community to attend the event and witness the thrilling action on the court.

The EVES Open – ITF World Tennis Tour: Tauranga is scheduled to take place from December 17-23 at the Venture Developments WBOP Tennis Centre, Gordon Spratt Reserve, Pāpāmoa. Entry is free for spectators, offering everyone the chance to witness world-class tennis right in their own backyard. On the other hand, the New Zealand Wheelchair Tennis National Championships will be held on December 21 and 22, featuring afternoon matches on the centre court.
