LIV Golf’s Inaugural Promotions Event and the Road to the 2024 Season

LIV Golf is making final preparations for the upcoming inaugural Promotions Event, scheduled to take place next month, in anticipation of the 2024 season. The recently concluded 2023 season saw Talor Gooch emerge victorious with 192 points and three wins. Gooch outperformed Cameron Smith, who secured second place, and Brooks Koepka, who finished third.

However, amidst Gooch’s success, a number of players found themselves at the bottom of the standings. Consequently, LIV Golf made the decision to demote four players from the league due to their finish in the bottom six places. Jediah Morgan, James Piot, Chase Koepka, and Sihwan Kim were all affected by this ruling. Additionally, despite finishing in the bottom six overall, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer maintained their positions in the league due to their exempt status as team captains.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming season, LIV Golf has organized the Promotions Event to be held in Abu Dhabi. The tournament, scheduled to span three days from December 8-10, will comprise four rounds (72 holes) with two rounds on the final day.

The top three players from the tournament will secure automatic qualification for the 2024 season of LIV Golf. Players who were relegated this year, as well as those aspiring to join the league, will have the opportunity to compete in the tournament at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Although the full roster of participants is yet to be confirmed, LIV Golf has disclosed the total prize money for the tournament, amounting to $1.5 million (£1.2 million). Notably, the winner stands to receive $200,000 (£1600,000) in prize money, the runner-up will earn $150,000 (£120,000), and the third-place finisher will be awarded $100,000 (£80,000).

Furthermore, LIV Golf has officially announced the complete schedule for the 2024 season, commencing in February. The season will begin with an event in Mayakoba, Mexico on February 2, followed by another event in Las Vegas on February 8. Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf, expressed his optimism for the upcoming 2024 season, emphasizing the worldwide appeal of the league and its aim to attract new fans to the sport. Norman’s statement underscores the league’s dedication to fostering growth and delivering top-tier competition to diverse markets on an annual basis.
