Top Rugby Stars from the USA

Today marks a day of gratitude in the United States as the country celebrates Thanksgiving. Despite not being a rugby powerhouse on the international stage, the United States has produced exceptional talent over the years. The national team, known as the Eagles, has participated in eight of the ten Rugby World Cup events, but has yet to progress beyond the Pool stages. Since 2016, the United States has been competing in the Americas Rugby Championship and has been crowned champions twice (in 2017 and 2018).

Throughout the history of United States Rugby, several outstanding talents have emerged. We have curated an Ultimate XV of the best United States-eligible rugby players from past and present.

### Back Three
15. Blaine Scully
14. Chris Wyles
11. Carlin Isles

For the back three, a trio of retired United States stars has been selected, including the remarkably fast Carlin Isles, who is considered one of the quickest rugby players of all time. Isles’ remarkable speed, with a top speed of 25.7mph and a 100m sprint time of 10.13s, is truly impressive. In fact, his time would have qualified him for the 100m semi-finals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Chris Wyles, known as one of Premiership Rugby’s best American players, showcased his versatility across multiple positions and enjoyed a successful career with various clubs. Meanwhile, Blaine Scully, a fan favourite during his time in the Premiership, made a significant impact both in England and Wales.

### Centres
13. Will Helu
12. Tommaso Boni

Our Ultimate American XV features two players who have represented a different nation in the past. Will Helu, who gained international experience with Tonga before making his USA debut in 2020, is known for his time at Wasps and Edinburgh. Tommaso Boni, who previously played for Italy, has also joined the American ranks and made his debut for the USA last Summer against Romania.

These players have contributed to the growth and development of rugby in the United States and continue to inspire the next generation of American rugby stars.
