The Thaxted Dragons karate club has recently achieved significant success at the European Championships of the World Union of Karate-Do Federations, held in Antibes, France. The club, represented by 13 young students, returned home with one silver and two bronze medals, showcasing their exceptional talent and skill on the international stage.
The European Championships, a prestigious event featuring over 2,000 fighters from more than 30 countries, is renowned for its rich tradition and high level of competition. Participants were treated to a traditional opening ceremony parade before engaging in intense matches, further highlighting the significance of the competition.
Sensei Barry Healy, the esteemed instructor of the Thaxted Dragons, expressed his immense pride in the team’s performance, emphasizing their exceptional skills, passion, and courage. The Thaxted Dragons’ squad, consisting of students ranging from six to 15 years of age, comprises individuals from various schools including Joyce Frankland, County High, Thaxted Primary, Great Sampford Primary, and Debden Primary.
